Full Description
Evergreen Native Pack is a durable, year-round hedging mix combining four native or long-established evergreen species, chosen for their resilience, longevity, and wildlife value. This pack provides strong structure, shelter, and screening while maintaining a natural, traditional appearance. Varieties included – equal split (25% each): English Holly ( Ilex aquifolium ) – A slow-growing native evergreen with dense, spiny foliage, excellent for security and winter cover, with berries on female plants. English Yew ( Taxus baccata ) – A classic native evergreen valued for its longevity, dense growth, and ability to form long-lasting, formal or informal hedging. Holm Oak ( Quercus ilex ) – A tough, evergreen oak with leathery leaves, highly tolerant of wind and exposure, providing strong structure and shelter. Scots Pine ( Pinus sylvestris ) – A native evergreen conifer offering height, resilience, and year-round screening, particularly well suited to exposed or rural settings. This pack is ideal for native-inspired landscapes, rural boundaries, and sites requiring a hardy, evergreen hedge with long-term ecological and structural value.

Evergreen Native Pack is a robust, long-term hedging mix made up of native and long-established evergreen species, selected for their resilience, longevity, and ability to provide year-round structure and shelter. This pack is ideal for customers seeking a natural-looking evergreen hedge that performs well across a wide range of UK conditions while supporting wildlife and landscape character.

Varieties included – equal split (25% each): English Holly (Ilex aquifolium) A classic native evergreen hedge plant with dense, glossy, spined foliage that provides excellent year-round screening and security. Holly produces small white flowers in late spring (May–June), followed by bright red berries on female plants in autumn and winter, offering valuable food for birds. Slow to moderate growing, it responds well to trimming and is ideal for creating thick, stock-resistant hedging with strong winter presence. English Yew (Taxus baccata) One of the UK’s most iconic native evergreens, yew is exceptionally long-lived and renowned for its dense, dark green foliage. It provides outstanding shelter, privacy, and wind protection, and can be maintained either formally or informally. Growth is slow to moderate, making it low maintenance once established. Small flowers appear in spring, with red arils forming on female plants later in the year, highly attractive to birds. Holm Oak (Quercus ilex) An evergreen oak that is well adapted to UK conditions, particularly wind-exposed and coastal areas. Holm Oak has tough, leathery leaves with a dark green upper surface and paler underside, creating a strong, architectural look within mixed hedging. It grows at a moderate rate and contributes excellent long-term structure and shelter, making it ideal for wider hedgerows and screening boundaries. Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) A true native conifer that brings height, resilience, and character to evergreen hedging schemes. Scots Pine is fast to establish, tolerant of poor soils and exposure, and particularly well suited to rural, upland, and open landscapes. Its evergreen needles provide year-round cover, while cones offer additional wildlife interest. Best used as part of a mixed hedge rather than tightly clipped formal hedging. Why choose this pack? This mix delivers year-round privacy, shelter, and visual structure, while maintaining a natural, native feel. It is particularly well suited to rural boundaries, estates, woodland-edge planting, and large gardens where long-term performance matters more than rapid short-term coverage. The combination of broadleaf evergreens and conifers ensures resilience against weather extremes, pests, and seasonal variation. Planting & maintenance notes: Plant during the dormant season for bare root stock or year-round for pot-grown plants, ensuring good soil preparation and aftercare during establishment. Allow sufficient spacing to accommodate mature growth, particularly for Holm Oak and Scots Pine. Light formative pruning can be carried out once established, with heavier trimming avoided in early years to encourage strong root systems. This pack is ideal for customers looking to create a durable, native-style evergreen hedge that will continue to improve with age, providing structure, wildlife value, and dependable screening for decades to come.
Planting and care

Choose a position in full sun. Use freely draining soil and avoid leaving roots in standing water.

Water thoroughly after planting and check soil moisture regularly during establishment, particularly in dry or windy weather. Keep competing weeds clear and avoid piling mulch against stems.

Check the individual plants in the pack before positioning them. Match pruning and any winter protection to each supplied species; use the full plant list and substitution notes on this page.

Delivery and unpacking

On arrival, carefully remove outer packaging and check the plants against your order. Handle plants by their pot or root ball where possible, rather than pulling on stems or branches.

Check root moisture and water if needed. Until planting, keep the plants upright in a sheltered position and prevent roots from drying out. If supplied bare-root, keep the roots covered and moist and plant promptly when conditions allow.

Delivery arrangements and any charges are those confirmed for your order.

Important information

This mix contains yew, which is highly poisonous if eaten, including dried foliage and seeds. Holly berries should not be eaten, and substantial oak acorn or leaf ingestion is also hazardous to animals. Keep every part of the hedge and all clippings away from children, pets and grazing livestock, and treat suspected yew ingestion as an emergency.

Hardiness is a conservative estimate for the whole mix (H4), based on its least cold-hardy listed plant. Individual plants may be hardier; site, drainage and establishment affect winter survival.
