  • Make room for privacy

Turn an overlooked boundary into a leafy retreat for relaxing, dining and spending more time outdoors.

  • Give wildlife a home

Dense hedges offer shelter and nesting places; flowering and fruiting varieties can feed pollinators and birds.

  • Shape your garden

Create outdoor rooms, frame a favourite view or soften a fence with a living backdrop to your planting.

  • Enjoy the changing seasons

Choose fresh spring growth, summer flowers, autumn colour or evergreen structure to keep your boundary interesting.

  • Create a more sheltered space

A well-placed hedge filters wind, helping make exposed seating areas and borders feel more comfortable.

  • Connect pockets of nature

A continuous planted boundary can help wildlife move between gardens and neighbouring green spaces.

Hedging questions

Open a question for a quick explanation, useful comparisons and a guide to your next step.

What is the difference between a hedging plant and a hedge unit?

Choose how established you want to start

Individual plants

Plant separately along a boundary. The widest choice of sizes and root types lets you balance your budget with how long you can wait for the hedge to fill out.

Pre-grown units

Plants grown together and trimmed into ready-made hedge sections, for a more established boundary from day one. Check each unit’s listed dimensions.

Are all hedging varieties evergreen?

Year-round greenery or seasonal change?

Evergreen structure

Cherry Laurel, Portuguese Laurel and English Yew keep foliage through winter, creating a green backdrop and ongoing cover.

Changing colour

Beech and Hornbeam bring fresh spring growth and autumn colour. A regularly clipped Beech hedge often holds many dry leaves into winter.

What do pot-grown, bare-root and rootball mean?

Three ways your plants can arrive

Pot-grown

Roots grown in compost inside a container. Usually available throughout the year, subject to stock.

Bare-root

Lifted without soil around the roots. A seasonal, often economical choice for dormant-season planting.

Rootball

Lifted with a wrapped ball of soil around the roots. Supplied during the dormant season.

Availability varies by plant and size. Check the selected option and avoid planting into frozen or waterlogged soil.
