Norway Spruce Instant Hedging Units

Our Norway Spruce Instant Hedging Units, featuring Picea abies, offer a classic and robust solution for creating a dense, evergreen hedge. Known for its rich green needles and elegant, pyramidal shape, Norway Spruce provides year-round privacy and structure to your garden. These pre-grown units deliver immediate coverage, adding a natural and established look to any outdoor space.
Features of Norway Spruce
Picea abies, commonly known as Norway Spruce, is a fast-growing conifer renowned for its dense, dark green needles and graceful, conical form. Its rich green foliage maintains its color throughout the year, providing an excellent backdrop for other plants and a reliable privacy screen. The needles are short, pointed, and have a distinctive fresh, pine scent, adding sensory appeal to your garden. Norway Spruce's strong branching structure makes it an ideal choice for a windbreak or a sturdy hedge that will last for many years.
Benefits for Nature
Norway Spruce hedges contribute to a wildlife-friendly garden by offering shelter and nesting sites for birds within their thick branches. The dense foliage also provides a habitat for small mammals and insects, creating a diverse ecosystem. During the winter months, the shelter provided by the spruce’s evergreen nature is particularly valuable for wildlife, offering protection against harsh weather conditions.
Landscaping and Design Appeal
Norway Spruce Instant Hedging Units are an excellent choice for creating a formal, stately appearance in your garden. Their symmetrical growth and dense foliage make them ideal for use as natural boundaries, privacy screens, or windbreaks. The hedge's classic, conical shape adds a structured and elegant look to both traditional and contemporary landscapes. It can be left to grow naturally or pruned to maintain a more tailored appearance. This hedge’s ability to thrive in a variety of conditions makes it a versatile option for different garden designs, whether used as a standalone feature or to complement other plantings.
Preferred Conditions
Norway Spruce thrives in well-drained soils and prefers a sunny or partially shaded location. It is adaptable to a wide range of soil types, including sandy, loamy, and clay soils. During the establishment period, regular watering is crucial to encourage healthy growth and a strong root system. Once established, Norway Spruce is relatively low-maintenance, with occasional pruning to maintain its shape and promote denser growth. It is also known for its resilience to cold temperatures and harsh weather, making it an excellent choice for colder climates.
Fun Fact
Did you know that Norway Spruce is one of the most commonly used trees for Christmas trees around the world? Its symmetrical shape and strong branches make it ideal for decorating. Additionally, Norway Spruce has been used in forestry for centuries due to its rapid growth and high-quality timber, which is used in construction and for making musical instruments!

Delivery method

Planting and care

Choose a position in full sun or partial shade. Keep the soil moist while allowing excess water to drain freely.

Water thoroughly after planting and check soil moisture regularly during establishment, particularly in dry or windy weather. Keep competing weeds clear and avoid piling mulch against stems.

Check support ties as the plant grows. Maintain the supplied shape with pruning appropriate to the species, taking care not to remove more old wood than that species can regenerate.

What you’ll receive

Supplied according to the option you select for this product.

Height: 200cm.

Delivery and unpacking

On arrival, carefully remove outer packaging and check the plants against your order. Handle plants by their pot or root ball where possible, rather than pulling on stems or branches.

Check root moisture and water if needed. Until planting, keep the plants upright in a sheltered position and prevent roots from drying out. If supplied bare-root, keep the roots covered and moist and plant promptly when conditions allow.

Larger plants and root balls can be heavy. Arrange suitable help and equipment for safe unloading and positioning.

Delivery arrangements and any charges are those confirmed for your order.

Important information

Norway spruce is not usually a chemical poisoning concern in normal garden use. Needles, cones and resin can irritate a mouth or stomach if chewed, so keep loose material away from pets. Do not use ornamental tree cuttings as animal feed.
