Full Description

Miscanthus sinensis β€˜Red Chief’ A colourful, upright ornamental grass producing fine green foliage topped with deep reddish-copper flower plumes in late summer. Provides long-lasting seasonal colour and movement in borders or naturalistic plantings. Maintenance: Cut back old stems in late winter or early spring before new growth begins to maintain vigour and encourage fresh foliage.

Choosing this plant for your space

Consider the foliage and form described above when combining this grass with neighbouring plants. Plan its position so its outline can be appreciated, while retaining access for the seasonal maintenance described for this plant.

Position and soil

Choose a sunny position. Well-drained soil is suitable, including soil that retains moisture while allowing excess water to drain away.

Choosing your size

The option you select determines the pot size supplied. Use the listed measurements to plan the quantity and spacing for your scheme before ordering.

Planting and care

Choose a position in full sun. Keep the soil moist while allowing excess water to drain freely.

Water thoroughly after planting and check soil moisture regularly during establishment, particularly in dry or windy weather. Keep competing weeds clear and avoid piling mulch against stems.

What you’ll receive

Supplied according to the option you select for this product.

Pot Size: as selected when ordering.

Delivery and unpacking

On arrival, carefully remove outer packaging and check the plants against your order. Handle plants by their pot or root ball where possible, rather than pulling on stems or branches.

Check root moisture and water if needed. Until planting, keep the plants upright in a sheltered position and prevent roots from drying out. If supplied bare-root, keep the roots covered and moist and plant promptly when conditions allow.

Delivery arrangements and any charges are those confirmed for your order.

Important information

Miscanthus is not known to be chemically poisonous in normal garden use. The leaf edges can cut skin or irritate mouths, so wear gloves when dividing or cutting it back. Do not encourage pets or horses to chew ornamental grass clumps.
