Description
Zabeliana Laurel
The Zabeliana Laurel, sometimes labelled the Prunus Laurocerasus ‘Zabeliana’, has an impressive evergreen foliage, often being linked to the image of a Willow as the leaves are slender and a similar, rich green colour. This colour is then emphasised as pale flowers bloom in Spring and create a dazzling addition to the plant. The Zabeliana Laurel is a low growing shrub, perfect for ground cover or low privacy screens due to their bushiness and width.
The Laurel (if preferred) is easily maintained at 0.5-1.5m in height and a mature spread of 2-2.5m as it has a horizontal branch form that allows it to spread well, making it a perfect ground cover plant. The Zabeliana Laurel will typically grow from 10-20cm per year, depending on factors like watering and nutrient intake, placing them into the “slow growing hedge” category. We offer you the choice of Zabeliana Laurels in a range of sizes, meaning you can choose to affordably grow the hedging or receive it fully-grown and instantly have the benefits of its compactness and hardiness. For customers who are looking for larger and quicker growing hedging plants with more instant height and protection, our range of Cherry, Caucasica and Genolia Laurels may be more suited, or any of our fast-growing conifers as well, like the Leylandii.
In addition to its white flowers, the Zabeliana will also produce rounded, dark fruits that will attract a variety of British wildlife and so this Laurel is always a favourite with our eco-conscious customers. The Zabeliana Laurel is very hardy, being able to flourish in full sun and partial shade in chalk, clay, and sandy soils. It can also tolerate salt air very well and its short nature protects it from strong winds, so would be a perfect option for any customers in coastal locations looking for low hedging. The Laurel will also thrive in urban areas as it is unaffected by smog or air pollution and so the versatility of this Laurel is really what makes it a great quality plant.
