Traditional Native Hedging
Our Traditional Native Hedging is always popular with our eco-conscious customers as it is a great addition to any garden, paddock, or field because all plants are safe for livestock, and they create amazing habitats for British wildlife. We have specially picked a selection of native hedging plants that complement each other in a stunning mix of colours and leaf shaping, creating an instant colourful impact in your garden. Our mixes typically include a selection of Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Dog Rose, and Field Maple. These varieties, as suggested by the title, include all the fantastic traditional native varieties of hedging.
Our Traditional Native Hedging is placed into the “medium growing hedge” category as plants like Blackthorn will grow up to 45cm per year, Field Maple at 20-40cm per year and Dog Rose at 30-60cm per year. The hedging can be pruned twice a year if needed in Winter and Springtime, avoiding the nesting months to ensure any wildlife in the hedging remains safe. We offer our Traditional Native Hedging in a variety of sizes from 15cm-150cm, all bare root so they are ready to be planted into your ideal hedging as soon as they are delivered.
The Traditional Native Hedging is created with native, British plants and so they are already adapted to growing and flourishing in British weather and soil types. This means your Traditional Native Hedging will be very hardy and able to tolerate colder weather and stronger winds. The hedging will also grow very dense and bushy, giving your garden great sound and privacy protection, whilst still highlighting the beauty of the variety of plants.
The recommended planting density varies depending on the height of the plants you buy. For Example:
Small – 15-90cm: It is recommended that you plant 3-5 plants per meter
Medium – 90-150cm: It is recommended that you plant 2-3 plants per meter
Large – 150-300cm: It is recommended that you plant 1-2 plants per meter
