Free specialist delivery on qualifying orders: At Harrod Outdoors, we take pride in delivering top-quality plants directly to your doorstep. Our delivery options are tailored to the size and type of plants you order, ensuring they arrive in excellent condition and ready to transform your outdoor space. We offer free specialist delivery on qualifying orders across most of the UK.
Typical lead time – around 3–4 weeks: Most orders take approximately 3–4 weeks to prepare and deliver. This time allows us to carefully source from our extensive range, prepare your plants to our high standards, and ensure everything arrives in peak condition.
Kerbside delivery only: All deliveries are kerbside, meaning your plants will be unloaded at the front of your property (driveway or kerbside) and will not be carried beyond this point. It is your responsibility to move the plants to their final location once delivered.
Safe place required: Please specify a safe place for box, pallet or van deliveries in your order notes. If none is provided, drivers will leave your order where they deem reasonable. Pallet and large tree deliveries require flat, solid access such as tarmac, concrete or brickweave – we cannot deliver onto gravel, shingle, grass or public roads or pathways.
Be available on the day of delivery: It is essential that you are contactable on your provided phone number in case the driver needs to reach you. If access is restricted, no safe place is available, or the driver is instructed not to leave the order, delivery will fail and additional delivery charges will apply or you may need to collect from the local depot.
Plan ahead: We recommend not booking landscapers or gardeners solely based on estimated delivery dates, as occasional delays can occur due to factors beyond our control. For full details, view our Delivery Policy or contact us for advice before ordering.
If you need help selecting the right plants or have specific delivery requirements, our friendly team is here to assist. You can trust us to handle your order with expertise every step of the way. View our Delivery Policy or Contact Us for more information.
Sweetgum Feathered trees grow at a moderate rate of approximately 30–60 cm (1–2 feet) per year under optimal conditions. While not the fastest-growing species, their vibrant foliage and symmetrical form make them a valuable addition to any landscape.
Sweetgum Feathered trees are ideal for medium to large gardens, parks, and avenues. Their striking autumn color and pyramidal shape make them perfect for ornamental planting or creating shade. However, ensure sufficient space to accommodate their mature size of up to 25 meters in height.
Sweetgum trees thrive in moist but well-drained soil. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral soils but can adapt to sandy, loamy, or clay soils. Regular watering during the establishment phase is crucial for healthy growth.
Yes, Sweetgum Feathered trees are relatively low-maintenance. They require little pruning, except to remove dead or damaged branches, and are generally pest-resistant. However, their spiky seed pods may require occasional cleanup in high-traffic areas. Mulching around the base helps retain soil moisture and support root health.
Yes, Sweetgum trees are deciduous and lose their leaves in autumn. Before shedding, their star-shaped foliage turns vibrant shades of orange, red, and purple, offering a stunning seasonal display.
Yes, Sweetgum trees contribute to biodiversity by providing shelter and nesting opportunities for birds and small mammals. Their seeds are a food source for wildlife, such as squirrels and certain bird species, enhancing the ecological value of your garden.
Yes, Sweetgum trees are well-suited for urban environments due to their adaptability and tolerance for pollution. Their symmetrical form and vibrant foliage make them an attractive option for parks, streetscapes, and large urban gardens. Be mindful of their spiky seed pods in high-traffic areas.
Sweetgum Feathered trees can reach a mature height of 20–25 meters (65–80 feet) with a spread of up to 12 meters (40 feet). Their youthful pyramidal shape broadens with age, making them a commanding presence in any landscape.
Yes, Sweetgum trees produce woody, spiky seed pods known as “gumballs” after flowering. These pods persist through winter, adding texture to the landscape. For reduced maintenance, consider sterile cultivars like *Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Rotundiloba,’* which do not produce seed pods.
Sweetgum trees are celebrated for their brilliant autumn foliage, star-shaped leaves, and spiky seed pods. Their adaptability to various environments, symmetrical form, and long-lasting seasonal color make them a standout feature in gardens and landscapes.
Plant Sweetgum trees in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Allow sufficient spacing to accommodate their mature size. Water regularly during the first year to establish strong roots, and provide supplemental watering during dry spells. Once established, Sweetgum trees require minimal care.
