Description
Rowan
Rowan is easily recognised in the autumn due to its vast display of red berries which fill the whole tree, following from the white flowers. Mature Rowan trees can grow up to 15m tall, but increasingly Rowan is being maintained around 2-3m in height and being used as a hedge plant instead.
The Rowan tree is also known as ‘mountain ash’, due to its rare ability to thrive in high-altitude locations like mountain tops.
The Rowan is very popular as a landscaping or general garden tree due to its flowers and fruits and the display they bring. The flowers and berries also attract lots of wildlife interest, making it a valuable plant for native hedgerows.
The recommended planting density varies depending on the height of the plants you buy for example:
Small – 15-90cm: It is recommended that you plant 3-5 plants per meter
Medium – 90-150cm: It is recommended that you plant 2-3 plants per meter
Large – 150-300cm: It is recommended that you plant 1-2 plants per meter
