Description
Otto Laurel
The Otto Laurel, often named the Prunus Laurocerasus ‘Otto Luyken’, is an ideal evergreen hedging for any garden as our customers are always impressed with the shrub’s hardiness and ability to grow and even flower in the shade. When the Otto Laurel does flower in Spring, the whiteness of the flowers stand against the rich, glossy green leaves and complement each other perfectly.
The Otto Laurel is a compact laurel, meaning it is perfect for creating instant privacy from neighbours and adding an extra layer of security to your property. The Laurel (if preferred) is easily maintained at 0.5-1.5m in height and only requires clipping just once a year in September or October. The Otto Laurel will typically grow from 10-20cm per year, depending on factors like watering and nutrient intake, placing them into the “slow growing hedge” category. We offer you the choice of Otto Laurels in a range of sizes, meaning you can choose to affordably grow the hedging or receive it fully-grown and instantly have the benefits of its compactness and hardiness. For customers who are looking for larger and quicker growing hedging with more instant height and protection, our range of Cherry, Caucasica and Genolia Laurels may be more suited, or any of our fast-growing conifers as well, like the Leylandii.
The Otto Laurel can be planted in virtually all conditions, making it almost guaranteed to grow well in your garden wherever you are, if it is given the correct care. The Laurel is suitable for normal, clay and chalk soils, tolerating both full sun and full shade also. They are suitable for both inland and exposed sites, including coastal locations, making this Laurel very versatile and sure to make a great addition to any garden year-round as it will keep its lovely colouring and bushiness due to being an evergreen shrub.
The recommended planting density varies depending on the height of the plants you buy. For Example:
