Acer platanoides, or Norway Maple, is a medium to large-sized deciduous tree known for its vigorous growth and dense canopy.

Acer platanoides, commonly known as Norway Maple, is a deciduous tree native to Europe. It is a medium to large-sized tree that typically grows to a height of 40 to 60 feet (12 to 18 meters) with a spread of 30 to 50 feet (9 to 15 meters).
Norway Maple stands out from other maple trees with its vigorous growth rate, forming a dense canopy and providing ample shade. Its leaves are dark green and palm-shaped, creating a lush appearance in the landscape. However, unlike some other maple species, the autumn colour of Acer platanoides is often limited to yellow or pale-yellow tones.
This species is known for its tolerance to a wide range of soil conditions, including compacted soil and urban environments. However, it can be less adaptable to extremely wet or dry soil conditions.
One notable characteristic of Acer platanoides is its ability to produce large quantities of samaras, which are winged seeds that can spread and colonize new areas. This can make it invasive in certain regions, posing a potential threat to native plant species.
Overall, Acer platanoides is a popular choice for its fast growth, dense shade, and adaptability to various soil conditions. However, it is important to consider its potential invasiveness and suitability for the specific environmental conditions and conservation goals of your region.
