Green Bamboo (Phyllostachys bissetii) hedging, and screening is becoming increasingly popular with our customers as it offers a unique, exotic aesthetic into any modern garden. The plants create a new addition of colours and textures for borders, ground cover and windbreaks year-round as the bamboo remains intact through all seasons as it is an evergreen. Green Bamboo is fast growing but will not spread to the same extent as other evergreens like Laurels or Griselinia and so can be a great option for those with smaller gardens who are looking to be economical with space. Just be aware that bamboo easily spreads via rhizomes so have the bamboo contained in pots or containers unless you want the plants to naturally spread.

Our Green Bamboo (if preferred) will grow tall- easily over 5m in height, making them ideal for instant privacy and protection. They are easily maintained if just trimmed once or twice a year and can typically grow anywhere from 90-130cm depending on factors like watering and nutrient intake, placing them into the “rapid growing hedge” category. We offer you the choice of Bamboo in a range of sizes and varieties, meaning you can choose to affordably grow the hedging or receive it fully-grown and instantly have the benefits of its aesthetic and versatility.

Green Bamboo is a great option for most gardens as the hedging is hardy and will thrive in sunned areas and most soil types, providing they are moist and well-drained. If your garden has exceptionally dry soil, then you should be aware that the Bamboo will need more care in terms of watering and drainage, so the plant does not become overly dry or water-logged. The use of Green Bamboo will help offer something different for all gardens, whether you are looking to utilise its fast growth for some affordable screening or creating a contemporary, Japanese garden aesthetic and so the shrub can be utilised for a wide range of purposes.

The recommended planting density varies depending on the height of the plants you buy. For Example:

Small – 15-90cm: It is recommended that you plant 3-5 plants per meter

Medium – 90-150cm: It is recommended that you plant 2-3 plants per meter

Large – 150-300cm: It is recommended that you plant 1-2 plants per meter
