Common Dogwood | Bare Root | 30-50cm

Regular Price £1.29 incl.VAT

Common Dogwood, also labelled as Cornus Sanguinea, is always a popular option with our customers because of its low maintenance and gorgeous display of mixed green foliage, as the lighter leaves combine with the darker leaf buds. The Dogwood will also bloom into gorgeous, white floral clusters however they are more understated than the White Dogwood variety, although they are equally as appealing to the UK wildlife. The plant is also still praised for its colour display in Autumn as the leaves shift from green to crimson.

Common Dogwood

Common Dogwood, also labelled as Cornus Sanguinea, is always a popular option with our customers because of its low maintenance and gorgeous display of mixed green foliage, as the lighter leaves combine with the darker leaf buds. The Dogwood will also bloom into gorgeous, white floral clusters however they are more understated than the White Dogwood variety, although they are equally as appealing to the UK wildlife. The plant is also still praised for its colour display in Autumn as the leaves shift from green to crimson.

Like the White Dogwood, Common Dogwood is placed into the “medium growing hedge” category as typically it can grow between 40-60cm per year depending on factors like watering and nutrient intake. Common Dogwood (if preferred) can grow tall, up to 10m at a mature height and only require a hard pruning once a year once they are well-established, often in March time. We offer our Common Dogwood in a variety of sizes from 15cm-200cm, meaning you can choose to affordably grow the hedging or receive it fully-grown and instantly have the benefits of its colours and wildlife-attraction.

Common Dogwood is often found growing wild in UK hedgerows and so is already accustomed to the UK climate and majority of soil types, including clay and sandy, and can thrive in damp conditions providing the soil does not become water-logged which may increase the risk of root rot. Common Dogwood does well in any mixed hedging or borders and can also be used as an ornamental plant for aesthetic purposes to encourage a wider variety of colour into the garden.

The recommended planting density varies depending on the height of the plants you buy. For Example:

Small – 15-90cm: It is recommended that you plant 3-5 plants per meter

Medium – 90-150cm: It is recommended that you plant 2-3 plants per meter

Large – 150-300cm: It is recommended that you plant 1-2 plants per meter
